POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct supervision to a group of children in a seasonal day camp, nurturing the development of children by providing a safe place to learn foundations skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships, and build self-reliance through the Y's values of caring, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, and citizenship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or GED and at least 18 years old.
  • Prior experience working with children.
  • Certification requirements include, within 30 days of hire, CPR/AED and First Aid; Child Abuse Prevention
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with others required and must enjoy working with children.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply policies and procedures.
  • Must be personable, decisive, and willing to be a leader.
  • Physical ability to lift children.
  • Ability to work independently, be organized, and be quality-oriented.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • They Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with parents, coworkers, campers, and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains sight or sound supervision of children at all times.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, age-appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions in both indoor and outdoor settings; exposure to heat, cold and moderate noise levels; and verbal, visual, and auditory ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.

STATUS/HOURS: Part-Time Position; Various shifts available Mon-Fri, 7 am-6:30 pm


SALARY/PAY RATE: $15-$17/hr varies per experience
